Sir,

Anyone who has passed through the M.G. Road Market area in Mysuru lately may have noticed an unusual sight: There seem to be more domestic cows on the road than actual vehicles.

What used to be a bustling commercial stretch is increasingly becoming a resting spot for cattle, creating a curious — but sometimes chaotic — scene.

During peak hours, commuters often find themselves navigating around herds of cows that have made the road their own. While Mysuru has always had its share of free-roaming cattle, the recent surge in their numbers on major roads has raised concerns about traffic flow and public safety.

Motorists frequently slow down or swerve to avoid the animals, while pedestrians struggle to navigate crowded sections where cows linger near shops and stalls.

Residents and shopkeepers report that this issue has been steadily worsening over the past few months. Many express worry not just about congestion but also about the risk of accidents in such a busy marketplace.

The presence of cattle is undeniably woven into the cultural fabric of the city, but the situation on M.G. Road suggests an urgent need for better regulation and management.

As Mysore continues to grow, ensuring that its streets remain safe — for both people and animals — should be a priority for local authorities.
