It is with great sorrow and pain I learnt about the demise of my teacher Prof. S. Dandapani in Bengaluru on Apr. 18. In the passing away of Dandapani, RIEM and the Mysuru city has lost one of the most popular teachers of Psychology. Dr. Dandapani was born on 31st October 1931 in Tamil Nadu. With his sweet voice and towering personality, everyone used to appreciate his style of teaching. His teaching used to be sprinkled with lot of humour. He used to do his work in a highly systematic way. He used to teach how to work with interest and commitment. Students liked him because he cared for them a lot and solved their problems with ease and confidence. As a Psychology teacher he developed an ability to convince people on any matter and find solutions to their problems. He was the first person to come to College and was indeed a teacher par excellence. There are four types of teachers — A poor teacher tells; an average teacher explains; A good teacher demonstrates and a great teacher inspires. Prof. Dandapani belonged to the fourth category, who used to inspire his students. He retired from RIEM on 31st October 1991. Prof. Dandapani was a regular contributor to Star of Mysore. His writing skills were excellent. He has written a number of books on Psychology for the benefit of students. Today I silently pay my homage to my Guru whose memories will always stay fresh in our minds. I salute him reciting the following Sanskrit verse: Guru Brahma; Guru Vishnu; Guru devo Maheshwara; Guru Sakshat Parabrahma; Thasmai Sri Guruve Namaha.
