Sir, Usain Bolt ended his decade-long dominance in world athletics at the 2017 World Championship. The most inspiring line that I read in the following morning newspaper was “Usain Bolt’s only opponent had been a clock.” Wow ! I am sure the reference has little relevance to the Centenary Clock Tower of the University of Mysore (UoM) in Manasagangothri campus. Every morning, I am at the vicinity of this tower during my cricket practice and keep checking the time looking at the clock. Unfortunately, more than the times it is right, it is still. Irony !! HMT, the time-keepers to the nation, has miserably failed to keep this clock ticking. The 70 feet tower which was constructed emulating The Great Bell of the Clock, nicknamed BIG BEN in London, has to live up to the reputation.
