This is to bring to the notice of the civic authorities concerned — particularly the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and our elected representatives — about the raging problem of stray cattle roaming freely across the city.
Citizens have raised this issue multiple times in the past and the authorities have repeatedly assured action. However, these assurances have turned out to be nothing more than white lies.
Innumerable cattle continue to wander unchecked along major thoroughfares such as M.G. Road, Agrahara, the Central Business District, Sayyaji Rao Road and several other areas, causing significant inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. At times, the cattle owners themselves stand nearby, displaying sheer audacity as their animals block the roads.
I have personally witnessed several near-accidents involving two-wheeler riders who were forced to brake suddenly when cows appeared out of nowhere, only to be hit by vehicles behind them.
Car drivers, too, are forced to honk continuously, shoo away the animals and navigate dangerously around them. As if stray cows were not enough, herds of buffalo and oxen are now seen roaming the streets, creating panic among motorists, especially riders. These animals can gore someone and cause serious injuries.
The problem worsens in the evening when people are returning home from work, leading to traffic snarls, confusion and relentless honking. Despite repeated promises, MCC and other authorities have failed to take concrete on-ground action to address this menace.
I urge the civic authorities to wake up before it is too late and take concrete, sustained measures to end the stray cattle menace once and for all.
