The recent Budget presented by CM Siddaramaiah contains several encouraging proposals for the development of Mysuru. The plan to develop Mysuru as a second IT hub to decongest Bengaluru, along with initiatives aimed at industrialising Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and strengthening welfare and public healthcare programmes, will certainly benefit the region.
However, one important issue concerning the people of Mysuru appears to have been overlooked by not recommending the proposal to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The existing Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in city has not yet been upgraded into a full-fledged Passport Seva Kendra with Tatkal facilities.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar has repeatedly urged the authorities to take steps for such an upgradation, but no concrete action has been taken so far.
At present, many applicants from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu are compelled to visit the Passport Kendra on Lalbagh Main Road or the Regional Passport Office, Koramangala, Bengaluru, for passport services.
Both locations are highly congested and lack adequate parking facilities, causing considerable inconvenience to visitors, who often have to park their vehicles at faraway places without proper safety.
If the Government is serious about decongesting Bengaluru and strengthening regional development, issues such as these deserve urgent attention.
Upgrading the existing passport facility in Mysuru to a full-fledged Passport Seva Kendra with Tatkal services would greatly benefit residents of the region and simultaneously reduce pressure on Bengaluru’s already overburdened centres.
It is therefore hoped that the authorities concerned will take immediate steps to upgrade the facility in Mysuru and consider relocating it to the more suitable premises available at Karanji Mansion, Nazarbad, Mysuru, without further delay.
