In recent times, Mysuru has witnessed a sharp increase in vehicular traffic, especially other State vehicles, resulting in worsening congestion and growing inconvenience for residents.
Alongside this, traffic violations such as triple seat riding, riding without helmets and the use of mobile phones while driving have become alarmingly common.
What is most concerning is the apparent decline in respect for traffic laws. On multiple occasions, I have personally observed triple seat riders or signal violators pass right in front of Traffic Police personnel with no action taken.
Such indifference sends a dangerous message: That traffic laws are optional and enforcement is ineffective. Merely checking vehicle documents or stopping a few vehicles randomly does not suffice.
The Mysuru Traffic Police must adopt a more proactive approach, including:
Strict penalisation of traffic rule violators.
Impounding of vehicles for serious/repeat offences.
Recommending suspension of driving licences where necessary.
Ensuring visible, consistent enforcement across all parts of the city.
The public confidence in law enforcement depends heavily on consistent and fair application of rules. If violations continue unchecked, there is a real danger that law-abiding citizens will lose faith in the system, leading to further deterioration in road discipline and public safety. It is time for the Mysuru Traffic Police to rise to the challenge and restore order on our roads through decisive and sustained action.
