Three cheers to MCC officials and the Commissioner in particular for the bold decision to remove illegal occupation of the park under high tension power line in Vijayanagar, which was causing much nuisance to traffic, environment and cleanliness in the area (Star of Mysore dated Mar. 12).
Uncontrolled street food business is turning out to be a big challenge. Roadside vendors are breaking the law on five counts:
1. Most of them do business obstructing smooth pedestrian movement. Pedestrians have the first right over the footpath, but they are forced on to the busy roads endangering their safety.
2. Customers often park their vehicles beside these food carts, hindering smooth flow of traffic.
3. Street food is often cooked unhygienically. Food safety is of least concern. Vendors are least concerned about their personal cleanliness, cleanliness of utensils, ingredients and surroundings.
4. Though the Government has banned use of domestic LPG for commercial purpose, blatant use of domestic cylinders is quite common. Also, the negligent use of LPG cylinders in crowded footpaths must be a safety concern.
5. Environment is also affected by vendors’ negligent handling of plastic and dumping of waste all around.
As a concerned citizen, I request the MCC Commissioner to keep the tempo up and remove the illegal encroachments of footpath in all other parts of the city. It is very essential to keep our tourist city clean and beautiful.
