The Karnataka Government has decided to shut down all Janaushadhi Kendras operating within Government Hospital premises, citing that State-run hospitals are expected to provide medicines free of cost to patients. However, the move has sparked strong criticism, with many calling it regressive and anti-poor. Widespread protests have erupted in opposition to the decision. In this context, we publish an article that highlights the role of Janaushadhi Kendras and their vital contribution to quality, affordable and accessible healthcare.
