Sir, Mysuru is an upcoming cosmopolitan city, apart from being a place frequented by domestic and international tourists, since a long time. Mysuru being a tourist centre should exhibit tourist-friendly gestures like readable name-boards, destination boards, direction boards in local language and in English. Unfortunately, we have some myopic leaders, instigating their blind followers, to blacken the English portion of the expensive display boards. I am sure that neither these leaders nor their followers can shun English in toto. As per Karnataka State Shops and Establishments Act, all the display boards should have the message in Kannada first, followed by English or any other language. In most of the cases this is strictly adhered to and even then the English portion of the display board is blackened by a handful of people, turning the boards to look ugly. I strongly feel that the government machinery should come forward to curb this nuisance of blackening the English portion of the boards, even when the message in Kannada is displayed, thus helping the shop owners, outdoor advertisers, public and in particular the tourists visiting the heritage city.
