The 71st I-Day was celebrated at the headquarters of Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in Mysuru. On this occasion, Prof. D.G. Rao, Director, CIIL, hoisted the National Flag in the presence of the academic, administrative and support staff of the Institute  and its schemes. The Director also delivered the I-Day speech during which he recalled with pride the sacrifices made by our great leaders during India’s struggle for freedom. He reminded the gathering that our sovereignty should not confine to political recognition only; rather it should essentially incorporate social and technological dimensions. Prof. Rao praised the spirit of non-violence as advocated by Mahatma Gandhi and urged one and all for strengthening the new initiatives of the Government such as Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan and Make in India. He informed the gathering about the role of the CIIL, Mysuru, in safeguarding and promoting the languages of India. Prof. Rao concluded his speech by wholeheartedly appreciating the initiatives of the Government of India in upholding the socio-cultural and economic equality by enabling these languages on technological and pedagogical fronts. After the Director’s speech, Dr. C.V. Shivaramakrishna, Reader-cum-Research Officer of the Institute, addressed the gathering. He illustrated the role of CIIL in ensuring egalitarianism in society.
