Sir, Apropos the news item “Private vehicles to be banned inside Gangothri” (Star of Mysore dated Dec.7) which is a most welcome move though belated. It is very much appreciated by one and all to retain and regain the glory of the name ‘Manasagangothri.’ Nowadays vehicle population is equivalent to that of humans (if not even more) choking all roads and junctions of the campus. Vehicles of uncivilised people trespassing into Gangothri campus are making significant contribution to disturbing and distracting noise pollution by altered silencers, terrorising China horns, twin tone horns with cut outs blowing them even when not required, for cheap thrill. Trespassers are seen smoking in Non-Smoking Zones and also parking their vehicles haphazardly. Many a time it is observed hapless teachers, while delivering lectures, have to pause for a while till the vehicle passes by and noise level comes down. Monograms and petrol are also stolen till the last drop is exhausted from vehicles, especially from bikes when the owners are concentrating on their studies inside forcing them to push the bikes all the way to petrol bunks. I request all the concerned to shift the central utility services like Banks, Post Office, canteen and even Administrative Office to the periphery of the campus to avoid entry of vehicles without passes to the campus to benefit the genuine law-abiding patrons.
