Sir,

I am writing in reference to the report titled ‘Pay-and-park system for Ashoka Road’ published in Star of Mysore on June 13, 2026. We would like to bring to your kind attention that this move will undoubtedly impact both the general public and customers. It appears to be an agreement between the Police and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), which risks monopolising the road.

Once monthly parking charges are accepted, the public will no longer have free access to the road 24x7. Residents and shop owners will legally claim parking rights, excluding the broader public.

Ashoka Road is a densely congested Central Business District with numerous shops and businesses. In fact, the situation is already dire.

Residents have started occupying parking spaces and even at night, it is extremely difficult to find a spot. This attempt to control the road by charging nominal fees and claiming the entire space is unacceptable.

We urge the MCC and the Police to reconsider and impose hourly charges for all, both residents, shop owners and the public, so that it remains a fair, common system.

We request your support in ensuring that this system is not imposed as a monthly monopoly. Instead, hourly rates applied universally would provide better regulation of traffic and parking on this crucial road.
