This bird is a Great White Pelican - Pelicanus onocrotalus, a rare visitor to this region. Very seldom sighted in this part of the country. It is a migratory visitor to parts of Gujarat and Barathpur Lake in North India. Sometimes the birds land up in unconventional locations accidentally. These accidental arrivals are called Stragglers in Ornithology. This is one such case that was captured by one of our readers S. Chandra on Sunday at Ranganathittu Birds Sanctuary.
