Mysuru: Zoo Authority of Karnataka is planning to open Zoos at every district in the State, said Authority Chairperson Mallige Veeresh. She was speaking while participating in the 21st anniversary of Neelaganga Mahila Balaga at the JSS Law College auditorium in Kuvempunagar, here yesterday and said that on Mysore Zoo celebrating its 125th anniversary, there was thinking at the government-level to start a Zoo in each district. A high-level meeting will be held with the officials concerned after looking into the basic facilities available to set up the Zoos, she said. Mysore Zoo has an area of 85 acres and Karanji Lake has another 86 acres of land. According to the rules of the Central Zoo Authority that is responsible for the overseeing of Zoos in India, the extent of land is not enough to house all the animals and utilising the land in Karanaji Lake is also not sufficient. Even then, the Zoo is maintained very well in the available space. Mysore Zoo is declared as a plastic-free zone, said Mallige Veeresh. The revenue of the Zoo is increasing by the day. The profit from it is being utilised for the development of other Zoos. At present, lot of emphasis is being given for development of Gadag Zoo, she added. On the occasion, Mallige Veeresh and Shivashri Vidyarthi Nilaya’s Founder M.C. Prabhamani were felicitated. Paramjyothi Mahila Balaga and Mahalakshmi Mahila Mandali members rendered Vachanas.
