Mysuru: Marking World Environment Day-2018, the Forest Department along with the District Administration launched ‘Vanothsava’ yesterday, aimed at planting saplings all along the Ring Road from Hinkal junction till Nanjangud Road junction. It is proposed to plant about 8,000 saplings along the Ring Road. ‘Vanothsava’ was launched by MP Pratap Simha, DC Abhiram G. Sankar and DCF Dr. Hanumanthappa at Hinkal junction here by planting a few saplings. Speaking on the occasion, Pratap Simha opined that World Environment Day should be observed in a meaningful note by improving greenery. He added that the Forest Department had already planted about 6,000 saplings of neem on the stretch of divider on Ring Road. Dr. Hanumanthappa said that over 30 varieties of saplings would be planted as part of ‘Vanothsava.’ He felt that the mission of planting 8,000 saplings would be accomplished in the next 15 days. He disclosed that the department had envisaged to plant 30,000 saplings in city limits. He contended that the plants should be protected and nurtured properly and said that the Director of the District Industries and Commerce Department has been requested to organise for protection of plants. He added that tree guards would be put up around all the plants. SP Amit Singh, National Highway Development Authority Engineer Chandrappa, ACF Shashi, RFO Govindaraj and others were present.
