Mysuru: JSS Nursing College observed ‘World Diabetes Day’ by conducting an awareness lecture for nursing students on 'Women and Diabetes' at the Rajendra auditorium recently. The lecture was delivered by Dr. M. Suresh Babu, Professor of Medicine, JSS Medical College and Hospital. He said, diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death in women globally with one in two members with diabetes being undiagnosed. “Women with diabetes are ten times more likely to develop heart disease than non-diabetics. Kidney disease and depression are also more likely in diabetic women compared to men. Obesity is an important risk factor for development of diabetes and all girls and women should have access and be encouraged to involve in physical activities,” he added.
