Mysuru: A three-day workshop on ‘Sustainable Urban Transport’ was organised by State Institute of Urban Development (SIUD) in association with Institute of Urban Transport, New Delhi, at SIUD premises in the campus of Administrative Training Institute (ATI) on Lalitha Mahal Road here. Inaugurating the programme, P. Sunil Kumar, Joint Director (Reforms), Directorate of Municipal Administration, Bengaluru, observed that urbanisation in the State stood at 38% tending to reach 50% gradually. He pointed out that roads too should be developed proportionately for smooth transportation. He averred that bad roads increase traffic snarls posing further problem for Traffic Police to regulate the flow of vehicles. He stressed the importance of maintaining roads during the rainy season which actually exposes the quality of roads. Engineers and officers of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Divisional Controllers of KSRTC from across the State participated in the workshop. G.J. Joshi, Professor, SVNIT, Surat, Venkatesh Kadagadakai, Director, SIUD, Sudha, Deputy Director, M.L. Chotani, Resource Person and others were present on the occasion.
