Workshop on Economics held

Mysuru: Maintaining that the essence of Commerce lies in Economics, former University of Mysore (UoM) Economics faculty Prof. K.C. Basavaraju has regretted the efforts being made to sideline Economics by projecting Commerce as the sole tool of development. He was speaking after Inaugurating an Educational Workshop on ‘Economics’ organised under the aegis of Karnataka State PU College Economics Lectures and Principals Forum at Maharaja’s PU College on JLB Road here recently. Pointing out that the importance of Economics came to limelight when America underwent an Economic crisis recently, Prof. Basavaraju highlighted the role of Economics in building many development models across the world. Nothing that Nobel Prize for Economics was introduced in 1969 after realising the role of Economics in the global scenario, he stressed on the need for educating students on the basics of Economics at an young age so that they can understand the subject much better in their future academic career. Forum President Shivegowda too spoke. An exam guide on Economics for first PU students was released on the occasion. DDPUE Shyamala presided.
