‘Women need due recognition in judiciary’

Mysuru: On the concluding day of the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, a seminar on ‘Janapara Chaluvaligalu’ (Pro-People Movements) was held at Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall here this morning. Delivering the keynote address, Ravi Verma Kumar, former Chairman, Karnataka State Backward Class Commission referring to prominence for women regretted that no women had occupied the post of Chief Justice of Supreme court and generalised that women’s role in judiciary should be given due importance. He recalled that the Indian Constitution took the final shape in 1949 and accepted on Jan. 26, 1950. Speaking on river rows, he asked Raitha Sanghas to evolve at a feasible solution instead of staging a protest whenever a judgement is released. He took  strong objection to moral policing which was not constitutional. Chamarasa Malipatil spoke on ‘Farmers’ movement,’ R.N. Chandrashekar on ‘Kannada Movement,’ CITU President S. Varalakshmi on ‘Labour Movement’ and Dr.L.G. Meera on ‘Women’s Movement.’
