Mysore/Mysuru: A woman, who had transferred Rs. 12.65 lakh to her Facebook friend, has been cheated by the so-called friend. A case has been registered at city’s CEN Police Station in this regard.

The woman, who was cheated is Geetha (name changed), a resident of Shakthinagar in city.

In 2025, a man befriended Geetha on Facebook and the man had told her that he was a resident of London. Later, she introduced her 9-year-old son to him and the trio had become close. After a few days, the man told Geetha that he had come to Indonesia and his ATM card was blocked. He then requested Geetha to help him with money to purchase ticket following which Geetha transferred a total of Rs. 1,85,000 in phases.

As days went by, the man informed Geetha that he had come to India and was transferring Rs. 25 lakh to her bank account. He told Geetha that he needed Rs. 10,80,000 as he had to pay currency conversion charges. So, Geetha sold her gold jewellery and transferred the money to her Facebook friend. Later, the man again told her to transfer Rs. 1,55,000 to his bank account. Geetha then began to doubt the man and later, the man cut off all communication with her.

Realising that she has been cheated, Geetha lodged a complaint at the CEN Police Station.
