Athletics is the mother of all sporting events  as it contributes greatly to the development of character traits such as courage, determination, sense of achievement and as well as develops personality development. Our city’s veteran athlete Madappa Yogendra, representing India in the 20th Asian Masters Athletic Championship 2017 at Rugao in China recently, won two bronze medals in the men's 55 plus category and has done all of us proud with his feats. He is our "Star This Week". Yogendra, a Mysorean employed with the Central Excise & Customs as Superintendent in Bengaluru, won a bronze medal in the 55 plus men's 3000m steeple-chase event. He was also part of the Indian 4x400m relay quartet which won the bronze medal. Yogendra is the son of late P. Madappa and N. Parvathamma. Encouraged by his supporting family, wife Renuka Devi, his two sons and two daughters, this veteran athlete has done every one proud. He has represented University of Mysore five years in the All India Inter-University Athletic Championships and Karnataka in the All India Inter-State Athletic Championships six times and won medals. He represented Central Excise & Customs and won medals in the Central Revenue Sports Meet in the South Zone and National level. Yogendra has been honoured for his achievements. He has also represented the country in the Asian Masters Athletic Meet held in Taipei (2012), 19th World Masters Athletics Championships in USA (2011) and 20th World Masters Athletics Championships held in Brazil (2013).
