Mysuru: The Commercial Taxes Department has lodged a complaint with the Devaraj Police accusing a BEML vendor of cheating the Government to the tune of lakhs of rupees by producing fake receipts.
Asif Ahmed, a registered vendor under the Karnataka Value Added Tax Act, used to supply Steel Fabrication materials to BEML. As Asif Ahmed had failed to remit tax of Rs. 4,11,031, in respect of Sept., Oct. and Nov. 2015 and Jan., Feb. 2016 to the Department, the Department sent a notice to BEML seeking to hold back payments to Asif. But as Asif failed to remit the taxes even after a long wait, the Commercial Taxes Department officials visited BEML, when they learnt that Asif had hoodwinked the BEML by submitting fake documents that had the seal and stamp of the Department.
