Department of Physiology, JSS Medical College, Mysuru, had organised a Continuing Medical Eduction (CME) programme on the theme, “VAK- SHRAVAN 2017 - Physiology of Speech and Hearing” recently. Dr. P.A. Kushalappa, Director (Academics), JSS University, inaugurated the CME and encouraged the team to conduct similar academic events. Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College, presided. Dr. R. Rajalakshmi, Organising Chairman of CME, welcomed. Dr. M.S. Sunitha, Organising Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. D. Venkatesh, Professor of Physiology, M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru, spoke about how peripherally, the mechanism of hearing is brought about and also explained the various theories of hearing. Dr. Asha Yathiraj, Professor of Audiology, AIISH, explained how the processing of hearing takes place in the brain involving the various brain centres. Saaransh Jain, Lecturer, JSSISH, explained the activities of brain by which one is aware of the process of thinking and perceive hearing and also about abnormalities of hearing in diseased individuals. Vipin Gosh, Lecturer, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing (JSSISH), explained how the hearing impaired can be tested with various tests and also emphasised on the procedure of audiometry and what happens to the audiogram in different types of deafness. Suma Raju, JSSISH, spoke about the mechanism of formation of speech and language and focused on the changes that occur during ageing. Dr. N.P. Nataraja, Professor and Director, JSSIH, explained how the analysis of voice can be done and recorded. This CME was attended by 110 delegates including faculty and post-graduates of various medical colleges from Bengaluru, Hubballi, Kolar, Mysuru, Kodagu, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Bellur.
