Student retracts bribery charge against UoM officials; receives marks card
Mysore/Mysuru: A day after staging a lone protest by lying down in the middle of the road in front of Crawford Hall — the administrative building of the University of Mysore (UoM) — on Tuesday, alleging that Varsity officials had demanded a bribe to issue her marks card, the student has now made a U-turn.
In a written statement submitted to UoM Registrar M.K. Savitha, the student, D.C. Prabha of M.A. Economics, clarified that no such demand was made by the Head of the Department. She added that she has now paid the prescribed fee of Rs. 3,255 and obtained her marks card.
The student, earlier, had staged a protest by lying on the road in front of Crawford Hall, alleging that UoM staff demanded a bribe of Rs. 18,000 to give back her SSLC and Degree marks cards which she had submitted when she was pursuing her MA Political Science course.
In a press release, Registrar Savitha stated that Prabha was a student of M.A. Political Science during the academic year 2021-22. She produced a bank challan confirming payment of the college fees and denied having made any bribery allegations.
The marks card was issued after verifying the fee payment made during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Students are advised to approach higher authorities in case of any issues,” Registrar Savitha said, adding that Prabha too has been counselled accordingly.
