Mysore/Mysuru: Technical expertise is very important to prevent power leakage, opined Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Managing Director (MD) K.M. Munigopal Raju.

He was speaking after inaugurating the one-day training on ‘Energy audit and loss reduction’ organised by Karnataka Electricity Board Engineers Association (KEBEA), Mysuru Divisional Centre, for CESC Officers at KEBEA auditorium in Kadakola recently.

Technical maintenance is essential to reduce power leakage, power outages and economic burden for which officials should take up adequate technical management, he advised.

“Earlier, during energy auditing at Ballupet Feeder in Sakleshpur, 40 percent to 43 percent power leakage was detected. Following adequate technical management, power leakage was successfully reduced to 12 percent. This helped in more revenue generation to CESC, power disruption was reduced resulting in easy maintenance of feeders, transformers and metres,” he said.

At present, CESC has planned for 5,000 MW power generation with an aim of achieving it in one year and establishment of 90 stations in CESC limits in the present year, he said and added that by March this year, 100 new feeders are to be added to the grids. During the training, retired Technical Director S. Mahesh provided various inputs to prevent power or energy leakage.

CESC Technical Director D.J. Diwakar, Superintending Engineer Sunil, Chief Engineers Mrutyunjaya and Somashekar, Chief General Manager (Technical) Sharanamma S. Jangina, KEBEA Vice-President Poornachandra Tejaswi, State Secretary R. Sudeer and others were present.
