Mysuru: The University of Mysore under its DST PURSE Programme has arranged a special lecture by Prof. Theeshan Bahorun, Professor of Applied Biochemistry and National Research Chair at the Mauritius Research Council, on the topic “Functional Foods in the management of diabetes and cancer: Molecular, animal studies and clinical evidences” on Feb. 19 at 11.30 am, at the Department of Studies in Microbiology, Manasagangothri. Prof .Theeshan Bahorun, who is also the Head of the ANDI Centre of Excellence for Biomedical and Biomaterials Research, has more than 20 years of experience in biomedical research on bioactive components of dietary/plant based factors (phytoceuticals), functional foods, oxidative stress mechanisms, molecular nutrition, chemopreventive strategies in diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular dysfunctions and clinical research. He has been the Chairman of the Food and Agricultural Research Council and is currently the President of the Board of Governors of the University of Technology, Mauritius.
