Mysuru: Subramanya Shashti will be observed at the famous Sri Subramanyeshwara Swamy temple at Siddalingapura on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway on Nov. 24. On this day, thousands of devotees, braving the morning chill, will assemble at Siddalingapura that is 10-km from Mysuru. The entire locality will resemble a village fair on this day with make-shift stalls set up at every nook and corner. With pujas beginning in the early hours of the day, the temple will be opened for devotees as early as 2.30 am and the idol of Lord Subramanyeshwara will be decorated with flowers while the temple will be specially illuminated to mark the occasion. In view of the celebrations and taking into consideration that thousands of devotees will visit the temple throughout the day, the city Police have restricted the movement of traffic on the highway from the midnight of Nov. 23 till 10 pm on Nov. 24. A press release from the Police Commissioner’s office states that all vehicles headed towards Bengaluru must proceed on the Ring Road towards the west and proceed towards north from the Royal Inn Circle and take the KRS Road to reach Pump House and travel further. Subramanya Shashti will also be celebrated at Varasiddhi Subramanya Swamy Temple, A.A. Block, HUDCO Layout, Bannimantap. Special pujas will be held from 6 am on Nov.24 where devotees can pour milk on the idol. In the evening, the idol will be decorated and pujas will be performed. The idol at this sacred place is special as it takes the form of a seven-headed ‘Sheshanaag.’ The idol is 6 ft tall and weighs one-and-a-half tonnes. Also, devotees can perform pujas to “Bili Yekka” plant (Lord Ganesha) and “Oudumbara” (Lord Dattatreya) that are right in front of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
