Mysore/Mysuru: A flute concert by students, held as part of Sri Purandara Dasa and Sri Tyagaraja Aradhana, was organised at Vidhyabharati Prarthana Mandira at the premises of Sri Chandramouleshwara Temple in V.V. Mohalla recently.
Hosted by Bamboo Melody Raagas, the programme brought together young learners and seasoned musicians under the guidance of Vidwan Rakesh Sudhir, blending devotion with artistic expression.
The event began with an invocation by Vidwan Pavan Madhav Masur and his students, who presented a fusion of Ganesha Stotram and Shiva Shadakshara Stotram interwoven with Konnakol. The ensemble featured Ankush S. Kadaba on flute, while Agasthya Arjun, B. Omkar, Sumeru V. Sakaleshpur and Sudhanva contributed vocals and Konnakol, creating a rich interplay of melody and rhythm, supported by mridanga.
The highlight was a flute ensemble by students of Bamboo Melody Raagas, Ankush Kadaba, Sumeru Sakaleshpur, Vibhav Gayatri, D. Krutarth, Agasthya, Omkar, Sudhanva and Sreeshanth Palekar, accompanied by Vidwan Pavan Madhav Masur on mridanga.
The concert concluded with a violin solo by Shrilalita Shriram, a disciple of Vidwan H.K. Narasimhamurthy, accompanied by Vidwan Bhuvan Ravishankar (son of Vidwan Tumkur B. Ravishankar) on mridanga. The recital, noted for its melodic depth and rhythmic precision, provided a fitting finale.
U.V. Veera Raghavacharya Swamiji graced the occasion and blessed the performers, highlighting the importance of preserving classical traditions.
The Aradhana paid tribute to Sri Purandara Dasa, regarded as the ‘Pitamaha’ of Karnatak music, and Sri Tyagaraja, revered as the saint-composer of the tradition.
The programme also underscored efforts to nurture young talent in Mysuru, with its blend of traditional compositions and the percussive art of Konnakol.
