Mysuru: “There is shortage of space to build houses for homeless people who have been sexually harassed or with AIDS, under the D. Devaraj Urs and Rajiv Gandhi Special Scheme. However, money will be sanctioned for such applicants to build houses provided they have sites,” said Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep. Addressing a meeting of officials at his office here on Monday, Randeep observed that there was a necessity of eight Ashraya Centres in city to accommodate the destitutes who otherwise sleep by the roadside during night. He added that two such centres have been opened in city, one near Gaadi Chowka in Devaraja Mohalla for women and one for men at Zonal Office premises in Devaraja Mohalla. He further said that the process to provide Aadhaar card and Electoral photo identity card to those destitutes was on, to avail Government benefits. Community Development Expert Dr. Byralingaiah told the meeting that food was being provided to the destitutes housed at the Ashraya Centre during night and observed that the destitutes were in need of LPG connection and ration card. Randeep asked officials concerned to provide necessary infrastructure to destitutes. Project Director Lokanath, District AIDS Control Officer C. Suvarna and others attended the meeting.
