Under the Social Security and Welfare scheme, the Labour Department is distributing smart cards to drivers, conductors, cleaners, bus stand personnel, route checking staff, booking clerks, cash clerks, depot clerks, time keepers, watchmen, security personnel, tyre replacing staff and fitters, tyre puncture workers, wheel balancing and alignment personnel, water tank cleaners, vehicle body builders, tinkerers, electricians, AC mechanics etc. Labourers working in these fields or trades or profession and aged between 18 and 60 years, can avail smart cards. The applicants must be non-IT payers, non-ESI and PF beneficiaries etc. The benefits of the scheme are available while on duty or non-duty.
