After the gang-rape incident in city, question raised over the safety of women. Many expressed that ‘Self-defence’ training for girls should be made compulsory in every city. Already self-defence training for girls aged 13-25 is given at KSRP hostel grounds in Gayathripuram. Training is given since 20 days, only for the family members of Police staffs.
KSRP 5th Battalion Assistant Commandant Mahadevaswamy told SOM, “Following the instructions of KSRP ADGP Alok Kumar, basic techniques of self-defence is being trained to 25 girls. As of now, black belt holders among the family members of Police staff are training the participants and later there are plans to rope in expert trainers. Planning to start self-defence training for other girls from Sept. 1 onwards. Also advanced self-defence techniques will be taught to girls in the coming days. One month training session will be held for one hour from 5-6 pm, self-defence will help girls to gain confidence to face any kind of situations. Moreover self-defence training is required for girls studying in schools and colleges,” he added.
