Seeking taluk status for Ponnampet: Action plan for 2nd phase of struggle ready

Ponnampet: An action plan for the second phase of struggle to get back taluk status for Ponnampet was evolved yesterday in continuation of the 32-day-long protest underway in that context. A unanimous decision was taken at a meeting chaired by former MLC and Chairman of the Ponnampet Taluk Rachana Horata Samithi Arun Machaiah held at APCMS auditorium here yesterday which was attended by heads of 21 Gram Panchayats. The meeting recollected that till 1952 the Central office of ‘Kaggatnad’ Taluk was functioning in Ponnampet which was gradually closed. It was decided to stage a protest from Dec.6 to 28 in front of Gandhi Statue in Ponnampet with one Gram Panchayat participating on each day for two hours to be taken up by elected representatives, members of Sthree Shakti groups and NGOs. The line-up of participating Gram Panchayats is Dec. 6-Nalkeri, Dec. 7-Badaga, Dec. 8-Kutta, Dec. 9-Srimangala, Dec.10-T.Shethigeri, Dec.11-Birunani, Dec.12-Hudikeri, Dec.13-Ponnampet, Dec.14-Aruthoklu, Dec.15-Gonikoppa, Dec.16-B.Shethigeri, Dec.17-Hathur, Dec.18- Mayamudi, Dec.19-Thithimathi, Dec. 20-Devarapura, Dec. 21-Balele, Dec. 22-Ponnappasanthe, Dec. 23-Nittur, Dec. 24-Kanur, Dec. 25-Balyamundur and Dec.2 6-Kirugur, according to Committee Convenor M.M.
