Mysuru: “The quality of education is a matter of global concern. In India, The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, was introduced with a view that every child in the age group of 6-14 years gets quality education. In this connection, the goals of education needed to be envisioned in a broader manner than merely the learning of subjects. The RTE Act would now include definitions of learning outcomes for classes 1 to VIII,” said Prof. Y. Sreekanth, Principal, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), NCERT, Mysuru, while inaugurating a three-day Regional Workshop on Learning Outcomes here on July 10.
Prof. Sreekanth further said that for the first time NCERT has developed Learning Outcomes which have been incorporated in the Right To Education (RTE). This document has been translated into different Southern languages in collaboration with the States. The National Achievement Survey (NAS) is based on these Learning Outcomes. Children enter school with their own learning experiences. A teacher who is a facilitator of children’s learning needs to be made aware of various pedagogies and also the progress in the child’s learning. This is very important for providing quality eEducation for all, he said.
