The mortal remains being carried in a hearse towards Kaniyanahundi, with hundreds of motorists following the cortege.

Mysuru: The mortal remains of legendary playback singer S. Janaki, fondly known as 'Gana Saraswati,' were taken in a flower-decked glass hearse from Maharaja's College Grounds in Mysuru to Kaniyanahundi village in H.D. Kote taluk, where she was laid to rest.

Throughout the journey, residents of towns and villages lined the route to pay their final respects. Many folded their hands in prayer as the hearse passed, while others captured the poignant moments on their mobile phones. Several mourners were seen in tears as they bid farewell to the iconic singer.

Following the public viewing at Maharaja's College Grounds, the funeral procession began around 3 pm. Large crowds gathered along the roads for a final glimpse of the beloved singer. A large convoy of vehicles carrying family members, dignitaries and admirers followed the hearse, stretching for more than a kilometre.

On reaching Kaniyanahundi, villagers lined the narrow streets to witness the final journey. Many said they felt honoured that the legendary singer's last rites were being performed in their village, describing it as a blessing. Men, women, children and elderly residents paid their respects with folded hands and tearful eyes.

Roads leading to the venue were packed with mourners, with some climbing trees and elevated spots for a better view of the rituals.
