Periyapatna: An elderly man died after being hit by a goods auto in the taluk last night. The deceased has been identified as Purdappashetty (75) of Ravandur village in the taluk. Purdappashetty was walking along Periyapatna-Ravandur Road last evening, when he was knocked down by a goods auto in front of the KSRTC bus shelter. Purdappashetty, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to Periyapatna General Hospital, where he breathed his last late on Monday night. Bettadapura Police have registered a case and are investigating. Toilets at KSRTC bus stand locked: Owing to official apathy, the toilets at Periyaptna KSRTC bus stand have been locked for the past two weeks, thus causing great inconvenience to the commuters, especially children, women and the aged. Meanwhile, KSRTC officials said that as the manholes attached to the toilets have got blocked, it had become inevitable for them to lock the toilets. Repeated requests to the authorities concerned to immediately clean the blockage have proved futile, they said while expressing their helplessness.
