Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru CID Police of the Forest Mobile Squad, following a tip off, have arrested a person on charges of attempting to sell two Grey Francolin (Indian Grey Partridge) birds near the playground at Rammanahalli on Mahadevapura Road yesterday morning and have rescued the birds besides seizing a cage in which they were kept.
The Forest sleuths, after confirming about the birds, raided the spot on Hanchya Road at about 10.30 am and arrested the man identified as 50-year-old Shivanna, a resident of Rammanahalli in the taluk.
A case has been registered against Shivanna and legal action has been initiated.
Grey Francolin is a strictly protected species in Karnataka and is legally protected across India under Schedule II of the National Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. This classification prohibits hunting, capturing or trading the bird. Anyone found guilty of killing or selling this species faces severe penalties, including imprisonment and hefty fines.
