mysuru woman dies inhaling gas

A 27-year-old woman from Mysuru died after inhaling toxic fumes from a gas geyser while bathing at a homestay in Kodagu district yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Vinutha, daughter of S. Jagannath and Renuka, residents of Siddarthanagar near Yeraganahalli, Mysuru.

According to the Police, Vinutha, who was employed with a private healthcare company and working from home, had travelled to Kodagu with a group of friends after taking two days’ leave from work.

The group was staying at an estate homestay in Kalkandur village of Somwarpet taluk.

At around 6.30 am yesterday, Vinutha entered the bathroom to take a bath. It is suspected that toxic fumes emitted from a gas geyser accumulated inside the bathroom, which reportedly lacked adequate ventilation.

She is believed to have suffocated and died inside the bathroom. Somwarpet Police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by her father, S. Jagannath.

Following a post-mortem examination at the Somwarpet Government Hospital, the body was handed over to the family.
