MRC Stables: Minister extends deadline by three months

Mysuru: Following the deadline given to Mysore Race Course (MRC) authorities to clear all illegal structures coming to an end yesterday, Tourism and Sericulture Minister S.R. Mahesh, inspected the MRC premises this morning to know if his directives were met. During his inspection, the Minister found many illegal structures such as temporary shelters built for horse caretakers, water tanks, tanks to dump horse dung and other illegal structures still existing. He took MCC Assistant Commissioner Muralidhar to task for not taking action to demolish all illegal structures in MRC premises. He then spoke to MRC Secretary K.G. Anantharaj Urs and extended the deadline to three more months to get all the illegal structures demolished. The Minister said that as per Court directive, the MRC should hold races with around 90 horses and added that the MRC was using the land for stables for 600 horses. He further said that there were about 1,800 people including horse caretakers staying in the MRC premises and temporary illegal sheds have built for them. Most of the caretakers were from North India. MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha, Mysuru Division Assistant Commissioner H.N. Shivegowda, Tahsildar T. Ramesh Babu, DCF and In-charge Mysuru Zoo Executive Director Siddaramappa Chalkapure, Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) Member-Secretary B.P. Ravi and officials of PWD and other departments accompanied the Minister during his inspection.
