Indian Women’s Cricket Team captain Mithali Raj entered the record books becoming the leading run-scorer in women’s ODI cricket. She achieved this while playing against Australia, yesterday. Mithali needed just 33 runs to break the record set by England’s Charlotte Edward (5992 runs in 191 matches). She not only went past the record but also became the first women cricketer ever to complete 6,000 ODI runs in just 164 innings. The Indian skipper also holds the record for scoring seven consecutive half-centuries and maximum number of ODI half-centuries (49) by any woman cricketer. Mithali Raj is only the second player in women’s cricket history to average over 50 in ODIs. Currently, she has an average of over 51. Australia’s Meg Lanning has the highest average of 54.12 followed by Ellyse Perry, who has an average of 50. Mithali Raj, who is often referred as Sachin Tendulkar of Indian Women’s Cricket, made her debut at the age of 16.
