‘Incorporate Sri Chamundeshwari Temple Development Authority with clearly demarcated boundaries’
Bengaluru: Urban Development Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah has directed all urban development authorities, including the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA), to revise outdated Master Plans and prepare new ones using GIS technology.
Reviewing progress at a meeting in Bengaluru recently, he noted that while MDA has completed its plan, the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple Development Authority, set up in 2024, must also be integrated with clearly defined boundaries.
Pointing to rapid population growth, the Minister urged authorities to expand civic amenities and make better use of available land. He flagged the Housing Department’s inability to meet demand and suggested exploring apartment-style housing projects, similar to private developments, to ease shortages.
On financial accountability, he instructed authorities to manage bank accounts transparently and comply with Finance Department guidelines. He also cautioned against focusing only on lake beautification, stressing the need for de-silting, sewage control and water storage to make lakes viable sources of drinking water. Revised guidelines, he said, are essential for comprehensive restoration.
The Minister warned that delays in issuing building permits drive up construction costs and promised action against officials responsible for unwarranted holdups. On Title Deeds, he directed that penalties be imposed where necessary but insisted that withdrawing allotments was unacceptable — Deeds must be issued promptly.
His remarks echoed Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s recent caution to Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and CEOs about unplanned urban growth, urging structured and sustainable city development.
The meeting was attended by Urban Development Department Secretary B.B. Cauvery, Town Planning Commissioner Shivananda Kapasi, Town Planning Director Tippeswamy and senior officials from all urban development authorities.
