Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has submitted a set of recommendations to South Western Railway (SWR), calling for improved train connectivity and infrastructure upgrades.

In a letter to SWR General Manager, Hubballi, and the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) in Mysuru, MCCI President K.B. Lingaraju highlighted several long-pending demands from business community and commuters.

Train frequencies

The MCCI has called for increasing the frequency of the Mysuru-Ajmer Train (No. 16209) from twice a week to four times a week while also rescheduling its current inconvenient arrival time of 2.25 am.

He sought introduction of a new bi-weekly service via Hassan. MCCI reiterated its long-pending demand to double the frequency of Sharavathi Express (Mysuru-Mumbai, No. 11036) from once a week to twice a week.

He pressed for either a new superfast train to New Delhi or the extension of Train No. 12629 (Nizamuddin Express) to originate from Mysuru instead of Yashwanthpur (Bengaluru).

Additionally, he requested that the Jodhpur Express (No. 16508/09) begin and terminate at Mysuru Junction and that the Barmer Express (No. 14805/06) be extended to Mysuru, thereby connecting passengers to major cities such as Pune, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad.

Lingaraju underscored that Mysuru’s strong cultural and commercial ties with regions such as Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Delhi justify enhanced rail connectivity.

Infrastructure demands

The MCCI emphasised the urgent need to widen the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at K.G. Koppal on Mysuru-Ashokapuram section to ease congestion, complete the RUB near Royal Inn Junction on KRS Road at Metagalli to eliminate daily traffic snarls on the Outer Ring Road.

He asked the railways to increase the proposed width of Crawford Hall Junction RUB from 5.5 meters to 7.5 meters in each direction to improve connectivity between Bogadi Road and the Central Business District.

According to Lingaraju, these measures are vital for Mysuru’s growing population and expanding economic activity. “Passengers face severe inconvenience due to odd train timings and limited services, while traffic congestion at key junctions is worsening by the day,” he said.
