Even as the city is grappling with ideas on better methods of waste management and disposal, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has directed mass waste generators such as hotels, restaurants, marriage halls, community halls, function halls, residential apartments etc., to segregate waste at the point of source itself and to set up a facility to manufacture bio-fertilizers. Also, the recyclable wastes must be handed over to the nearby waste collectors/authorised re-cyclers. The MCC will impose a penalty of Rs.10,000 in case the authorities find any discrepancies in the segregation and handling of hazardous waste-including sanitary waste.
