Mysore/Mysuru: A case of cyber fraud has been registered at Metagalli Police Station after a resident lost Rs. 2,71,662 from his bank account through unauthorised OTP transactions.

In his complaint, M. Jayashankar, a resident of Bhyraveshwara Nagar, stated that he received multiple OTP messages on his mobile phone around 8.30 pm on Mar. 8. Soon after, he noticed SMS alerts indicating that money had been debited from his bank account. Suspecting that his phone had been hacked, he immediately switched it off.

The next day, Mar. 9, Jayashankar visited the Canara Bank branch at Belagola Industrial Area, where bank officials confirmed that his account had been compromised and Rs. 2,71,662 had been fraudulently withdrawn.

After obtaining his account statement, he lodged a formal complaint with the Police on Mar. 11. Jayashankar also reported the incident to the National Cybercrime Helpline (1930).
