Mysuru: The two-day ‘Makkala Sahitya Ghosti’, organised as part of the 83rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, began at Kalamandira on Hunsur road here this morning. Writer Boluvaru Mohammad Kunhi inaugurated the event and delivered the keynote address. Writer Jayavantha Kadadevara presided. Prof. Chandragowda Kulkarni delivered a talk on the topic ‘Child Literature - Modern Challenges’. Saniya Dhannoora who delivered a talk on ‘My Nation-My land,’ began here speech by quoting poet Ramateertha’s words “Kashmir is my head and Kanyakumari is my foot. My shoulders are like Himalayas.” Pointing out that India is one of the biggest nations in the world having a unique diversity, she said that India is a land where the ancient Sindhu culture thrived. Stating that India is a multi-cultural country having many religious such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christian, Jain etc., She said that the country is proud to have such a vast diversity while also maintaining utmost unity and harmony. Saniya stressed on the need for conserving our rich land, language, culture, nature, traditions etc. in the better interests of future generations. Teen writer Antakarana stressed on the need to have common education. Pointing out that children should be allowed to go ahead with the subject of their choice, he said that parents should not thrust their wishes on children. Observing that heavy school bags are taking a toll on children, he emphasised on the need for engaging children in extra curricular an on-field activities. Calling for complete eradication of child labour, he emphasised on the need for preserving our nature, ecology and environment. Writer Fa.qu. Siddapoor spoke on the topic ‘Recent trends in child literature.’
