Mysuru: Continuing its camp in the city for the second day, the Karnataka Legislature’s Sub-ordinate Legislation Committee visited K.R. Hospital on Thursday and reviewed its infrastructure, patient care facilities and service delivery.

During the inspection, the Committee members visited the Emergency Ward, Out-Patient Registration Centre, Drug Stores, Kitchen, Surgical Department and Psychiatry Unit. Issuing a series of directions to improve services and address shortcomings, the members instructed the Hospital authorities to maintain better cleanliness standards and rectify deficiencies that they noticed in certain sections.

Committee Chairman S.R. Srinivas said the Hospital could consider revising its registration fee to generate additional revenues for infrastructure development. He promised that the Committee would recommend Government funding if the Hospital submitted a detailed list of infrastructure requirements.

MLC and Committee Member K. Shivakumar expressed concern over reports that the patients, most of whom are from rural areas, were being referred to private facilities for diagnostic scans and medicines, which had resulted an additional financial burden on them.

"All facilities available in the Hospital must be provided to patients," he said, adding he would provide a state-of-the-art ambulance to K.R. Hospital from his development funds.

MLC and Committee Member Sharavana said the Hospital should strive for providing healthcare services comparable to those offered by the renowned Jayadeva Institute.

MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, K.R. Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. H.P. Shobha and others were present.
