Belagavi: Labour Minister Santosh Lad has warned of stringent action against those garment factories found violating Government guidelines on safety of women workers. Replying to a question by MLC Narayanaswamy during Question Hour in the Legislative Council recently, Lad said that the Government was contemplating legal action against garment factories which have flouted Government guidelines on providing facilities and women safety. Pointing out that 99 out of the 332 complaints received have been registered over the past four years, he asserted that the Government would certainly act on specific complaints. Stating that he has held talks with Women and Child Welfare Department and Transport Department on ensuring women safety in garment factories, the Minister said that the Government was committed for protecting the rights and dignity of women. Replying to another question of JD(S) MLC T.A. Sharavana, he said that the Government was considering reduction in registration fee for construction workers. Announcing that the Government has set a target of registering 15 lakh workers in the next 15 days, he said that the Government was working on linking Aadhaar card with registration. He further said that a website will be launched on all the facilities, schemes, programmes and initiatives meant for the working class.
