Kodava Namme at Balugodu from Oct. 26

Mysuru: The annual cultural and sports fest organised by Federation of  Kodava Samajas will be held from Oct. 26 to 28 at Balugodu in Virajpet, Kodagu. Cultural events for three days include Kolaat, Bolakaat, Kathiyaat, Pareyakali, Kappeyaat, Baalopaat, Taalipat, Sambandha Adkovo and Ummathat. Sports events include tug-of-war, coconut shooting and boulder lifting. On Oct. 26, the hockey tournament will be inaugurated by Vishnu Cariappa at 9 am while women’s hockey will be opened by MLC Veena Achaiah at 9.30 am. On Oct. 27, homage will be paid to those Kodava soldiers and officers who have died fighting wars. Lt. Col. Kandrathanda Subbaiah, President, Field Marshal Cariappa and Gen. Thimmayya Forum, Madikeri will be chief guest. On Oct. 28, the cultural programmes will be inaugurated at 9.30 am by former President of the Federation Mallengada Dada Belliappa. The finals of hockey match will be held at 2.30 pm. Kodagu District In-charge Minister M.R. Seetharam, MP Pratap Simha and MLC Sunil Subramani will be the chief guests. The entire festival will be held under the supervision of former Minister Meriyanda C. Nanaiah, who is the patron of the Federation of Kodava Samajas, said Federation President Kallichanda Vishnu Cariappa.
