Karnataka State U-9 girls chess championship: Shefali triumphs

Bengaluru: Mandya's A.N. Shefali and Mysuru's Vaishnavi S. Rao tied with 8 points from nine rounds, but on the basis of her better tie-break score of 47 to the latter's 45, Shefali won the title in the Karnataka State U-9 girls chess championship which concluded in Bengaluru on Sunday. Mysuru's Vaishnavi Rao finished second and Bengaluru's V. Ranganayaki secured the third place with 7 points. All the three players will represent Karnataka in the National U-9 chess Championships. Mysuru's Yashika R. Joshi secured 6 points from 9 rounds and finished eighth in the final rankings. other Mysuru players K. Deeksha (6th place-5.5 points) and K.R. Sara (5 points-20th place) also fared well. In the Open U-9 championship, Abhyuday Santosh of Bengaluru won the title with 8 points. Vaibhav Kalpaka of Bengaluru finished second with 7.5 points and was followed by Apoorv Kamble (B'luru-7 points). Mysuru's S. Vishwajit secured 7 points and finished fourth. Another Mysuru player N.C. Gambhir secured 6 points and finished 14th in the final placing.
