Mysuru: Dr. Chandra Nayaka of the Department of Studies in Biotechnology, University of Mysore, who is leading the research on Pearl Millet funded by ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) under All Indian Coordinated Research Programme has been awarded the prestigious 2017 Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researcher, which is commonly called as  Japan Award. He is among the three researchers in the world to receive this award and the first Indian to receive the award comprising a citation and Rs. 5 lakh cash prize. The award recognises and honours young foreign researchers who are highly recommended by their institutes, and whose outstanding achievements promote research and development in agriculture, forestry, fishery and other related fields in developing regions of the world. The commendation ceremony was held on Nov. 2 at the U Thant International Conference Hall, United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo, Japan. Nayaka’s services in Plant Pathogen System Biology and Biotechnological Approaches for Plant Disease Management is recognised by the Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries Research Council, which is attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
