World Digestive Health Day

Mysuru, June 2- As part of World Digestive Health Day, the Karnataka Chapter of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), in association with Manipal Hospital, Mysuru, organised a Digestive Health Awareness Campaign at Chamundi Hill.

More than 250 participants, including doctors, healthcare professionals, fitness enthusiasts, students, and members of the public took part in “Chamundi Hill Climbathon and Cleanliness Drive” recently.

Held under the theme, “A Small Effort for Your Digestive Health, A Giant Step Towards Better Well-being,” the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of digestive health, healthy lifestyle practices and preventive healthcare measures. A special cleanliness drive was conducted along the Hill steps, promoting environmental responsibility and community participation.

The campaign, organised under the leadership of Dr. A.K. Satheesh Rao, Secretary, Karnataka Gastroenterology Association and Dr. H. P. Nandish, President, Karnataka Gastroenterology Association, was coordinated by Dr. Ramakrishna, Convenor, Mysuru Gastro Club.

Inaugurating the event, Dr. P.C. Kumaraswamy, District Health Officer (DHO), emphasised the importance of public awareness initiatives in building a healthier society. He encouraged young people to pay greater attention to their health and environmental conservation.

Dr. Kumaraswamy said, “A healthy digestive system and a clean environment form the foundation of overall well-being. This unique Climbathon, which combines physical activity with a cleanliness drive, is an excellent initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare among the public.”

Dr. Satheesh Rao, Senior Consultant - Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Manipal Hospital Mysuru & Secretary, Karnataka Gastroenterology Association, highlighted the significance of digestive health and stated, “The digestive system is as vital to the human body as the heart. The theme for this year’s World Digestive Health Day is ‘Chronic Diarrhoea: Don’t Flush the Signs Away.’

Addressing the gathering, Pramod Kunder, Cluster Director, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru & Manipal Hospitals, Mysuru, said, “This awareness campaign is a testament to our commitment towards promoting public health, preventive care and community well-being.”

B.J. Sandeep Patel, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospitals, also spoke. Dr. R. Nischay, Consultant - Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Manipal Hospital and several distinguished guests were present.
